Soak it for 6-8 hours in plain water first. This removes phytic acid- a natural compound that can block mineral absorption - and makes the millet much easier to digest. After soaking, drain and rinse well. Use a 1:2.5 ratio (1 cup millet to 2.5 cups water). Bring to a boil, then simmer covered on low for 12–15 minutes without stirring or lifting the lid. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. In a pressure cooker, 2 whistles on medium heat is enough.
